I Have A Dream . . .

To honor Martin Luther King day and keeping the focus on new years resolutions and  goals, I have a question to pose.

For flair, I’ll use a quote from the movie Pretty Woman and ask you . . .

What’s your dream?

To Dream the Impossible Dream

How do you perceive your dreams? Do you think they’re possible?  Many people view their dreams like a wish. If it happens, great. If it doesn’t happen they dismiss it by saying that it wasn’t meant to be. Wasn’t meant to be? Are you saying that failure is meant to be? No, the reality is that something happened and you chose to give up or settle because you stopped believing in the power and possibility of your dreams and yourself.

“The only thing that will stop you from fulfilling your dreams is you.”
~Tom Bradley

If you’re daydreaming of a better life I’d say that means you’re not happy with your current life. What can you do to make those dreams a reality? Can you resurrect and rekindle your dreams, or dream new dreams? Of course you can, and as long as they are not delusional dreams, why not turn them into reality? Other people have done it, at any age, against all odds, overcoming all obstacles, why can’t you?

“Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe.”
~Gail Devers

Fright Night

Very often we let fear hold us back. But what exactly are you afraid of? If you fail, you’ll just end up back to where you are now. If you don’t try you’ll certainly never get ahead, so isn’t it worth a shot?

Now to be clear, I’m not saying to sell the house and quit your job, because right now that might actually be a scary thought, instead, I suggest that you plan your attack and attack your plan. This will allow you to see that the dream is possible and that alone can help you to get past the fear that may be holding you back.

“Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. The fearful are caught as often as the bold.
Helen Keller

Get the Party Started

If you want to live the life you’ve only dreamt about, you have to stop dreaming and start doing. If you don’t act, you cannot attain anything of value, you’ll just end up with leftovers and tumbleweed, basically whatever just comes your way.

“Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.
~Abraham Lincoln

Don’t accept stagnancy, good fortune will not just come to you of its own accord, the ship does not come in so stop waiting, you must go after it. Even the lucky people who win the lottery had to act and buy a ticket. They did something that positioned them to  succeed. While that may not be the most odds in your favor type of endeavor, it still took action.

What’s your dream? A new car? Traveling the world? Being a great parent? Running a large company? Starting a charity? How can you make it happen? What will it take? After you figure out what to do, do it. Get started!

“What is not started today is never finished tomorrow.”
~Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

At home today with my little one! Schools are closed, daycare closed, banks closed because of this man who had a dream. Alexis knows about him already at six years old. He was born, he was a good man and they killed him. She doesn’t fully understand the impact he made on this society. She does however know the impact that the man who influenced Martin Luther King had, Jesus. His dream was much bigger than King’s but totally along the same lines because the dream King had was out of his relationship with Christ. It’s His dreams in me that propel me forward as it was Dr. King’s and regardless of the end result, nothing I do for Him will be meaningless nor will it fail, because all of heaven is behind me to see that it works.

I am excited about the dreams that I am given and the visions for a better tomorrow but you are absolutely right, take the steps needed and watch how awesome the outcomes will be.

As always, such a blessing to me Rob.

It’s a sad coincidence that MLK and Jesus were killed for their beliefs and what they stood for, and what’s appalling is that they stood for good, not evil, love, not hate, imagine that. What a twisted mentality some have.
